There is nothing much more relaxing than lounging outside on a summer day with a good book. I feel very strongly about a balanced life that includes hard work and play, but quality downtime as well.

I will admit I’m a little high maintenance when it comes to book choices! I don’t like to waste my precious downtime with a so-so book. That’s why I put this list together. These are my top book recommendations for your summer reading list. Enjoy!

  1. Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman
A psychological thriller that follows a honeymooning couple who discover something shocking and must decide whether to keep it a secret or not. A must read!
  2. The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker
Set in a Southern California college town, The Dreamers chronicles several girls that find themselves in a wild dream state and unable to wake up. This is a fascinating tale of ordinary lives transformed by strange illness.
  3. Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
This one’s been around, but if you haven’t read it, put it on your list! It’s a fun read and full of motivational wisdom. Hollis’ novel calls all women to face the world with self-confidence in themselves.
  4. Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner
I’m in the middle of this one (it was released earlier this month), and it’s a goodie! I love Jennifer Weiner and her easy-to-read novels. Mrs. Everything is no different. It’s a multi-generational story that deals with drug use, rape, abortion, and the ties of sisterhood.
  5. City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert
This spell-binding novel follows the story of a 19-year-old girl in the 1940’s who finds the kind of life she craves in the theater – and the kind of freedom it takes to pursue it. Vivian is a ninety-year-old woman telling her story at last. I highly recommend it!

Do you have one you would add to the list? Send me a message on Facebook! Please remember to make an effort for downtime. It doesn’t have to be reading; choose what you love to do!
